What does LCMS do? We offer affordable, quality music lessons to people of all ages in the Lakes District. We currently have over 100 pupils enrolled, from ages 4 to adult, with most being primary school age.
How does LCMS teach? We teach instruments with pupils in small groups, usually two pupils in half an hour, four in an hour. Most lessons are based at Wakatipu High School off Gorge Road, with some also at Kingsview Primary in Frankton and at our Arrowtown Hub St Paul's Cottage, Berkshire St, Arrowtown.
We also have some larger groups, for younger pupils, and for group performance / band / orchestras.
What does it cost? All classes are $120 per term which covers 8 lessons. We do have a fund available to support families in need who may have children keen to learn an instrument – we can provide free lessons on a termly basis. If you wish to be considered for this, please write and let us know.
What lessons can I take? See the 'Lessons' page. We teach after school, Monday - Friday.
Do I need an instrument for lessons? You need your own instrument to practice on at home. Keyboards and drum kits are provided at the High School for lessons, you’ll need to bring your own instrument along for other lessons. See the 'Instruments' page for the range of options.
What can you expect from LCMS?
The Music School arranges the teaching timetable, works with the teachers to try and find the best grouping for the pupils, and deals with the registrations / administration / payments.
We support the teachers and encourage sharing of good teaching ideas and methods.
We also arrange regular performance opportunities for all pupils.
Teachers provide 8 lessons per term, irrespective of the school term length. This allows our teachers some flexibility if they have to miss a week.
Teachers give regular feedback to parents about their child’s musical development and progress.
Teachers provide their own teaching materials. If this is a tutor book, you will purchase this directly from them.
Missing a lesson?
If a teacher has to miss a lesson (illness, weather etc) they will let you know directly. This will also be posted to the LCMS facebook page.
If the pupil has to miss a lesson, please let the teacher know directly – the LCMS email address isn’t monitored every day. We can’t offer catch ups for any lessons the pupil has to miss. If you’re ill / absent longer term, please let us know.
What do we need from you?
We assume that you are making a long term commitment to learning music, and enrollments are rolled over automatically from one term to the next. If you are not intending to continue with lessons, we need you to let us know in writing by the end of the term, so that another pupil can be offered the place.
Please keep your contact details up to date and make sure that you pay the termly fees as soon as you can.
