MARIA COLE: Keyboard/piano
Born in Australia, Maria began musical education at the age of seven. She studied classical piano for many years, completing her exams at the Melba Conservatorium in Melbourne.
Although trained foremost as a pianist, life ultimately took her in a different direction. After a lengthy corporate career Maria and her husband relocated to Queenstown in 1997 where she resumed her original musical passion. Since then, she has taught piano to numerous local children. Her philosophy is simple: she strives to foster a lifelong appreciation and knowledge of music in a supportive and fun environment and sees this as a vital part of every child’s education.
YANA TIARA LIAUW: Piano
I came from a musical family in Indonesia, my late mother was an opera singer and a piano & organ teacher. She taught me basic piano, and I was keen to learn classical music so when I was 10 years old she sent me to study at the music institute. I received intensive training for 6 years, learning music theory and classical piano. I started working at the Yamaha Music school, teaching keyboard lessons for age 3 to 7 years. I also studied at the Yamaha Conservatory Music.
I migrated to New Zealand in 2002 and taught piano privately at my home. I have been teaching for 15 years and I teach in creative way that helps students to improve their piano skills and enjoy their music study.
KATRINA BRISTOW: Voice
Her mission is to work with pupils to help them find their own voices. She sings in a variety of styles, including Rock, Pop, Classical, Country, Celtic and Jazz. Katrina has been teaching singing for many years, and is also currently teaching in Gore. She is soon hoping to be able to spend more time in Queenstown, including performing locally for special events. As a registered Chartered Accountant, we are very lucky to also have Katrina as the Finance Director of LCMS.
CLAIRE FORRESTER: Violin
Claire is joining us in 2016 from the UK. She is an accomplished and experienced performer, teacher and singer/songwriter. She has played the violin and guitar for 30 years and has been a member of many orchestras,bands and traditional Irish music circuits. She has a BAHons, a diploma in Music education and has been teaching violin and music theory to both adults and children for over 7 years.
Her lessons relay her passion for music, and are fun and enjoyable whilst productive.
JANELLE ASTON: Guitar Janelle studied at the Elam School of Fine Arts in Auckland. We are lucky to have Janelle back in Arrowtown after a period living in Christchurch. Janelle is a great jazz singer as well as guitarist, and performs regularly with local pianist Mark Wilson (see www.markwilsonmusician.net).
PATRICK TUHARIKIA BROOKS: Drums
Patrick was born in Wanganui. He played percussion for the recent production of 'Saturday Night Fever' in Queenstown and was a great member of the orchestra team. He is also part of the band for 'SongStars' 2015, and plays with various bands around town including as part of WinterFest 2015.
DAVE KENNEDY: Guitar / Voice / Bass / Drums / Bands / Muziq / Ukulele
Dave Kennedy is a top solo & duo performer with his partner Kathryn. He is a performance teacher of every style. Many of his students have gone on to study music at University level, and he has produced a string of nationally recognised musicians including Rock Quest NZ National Musician of the Year.

ALI SOPER: 'Start Here' beginner skills classes
Ali has been teaching music for 30 years, many of those as a Beginners Music Teacher at Out of School Music Classes. Ali's secondment to the University of Otago Music Department saw her promote and upgrade the skills of Early Childhood and Junior School Teachers throughout Invercargill schools.
Through singing games and percussion instruments, Ali concentrates on teaching the musical concepts of Rhythm, Melody, Form and Expression, equipping young children with the key musical tools they will need as they move forward onto studying Musicianship and learning an instrument.
Ali is passionate about music and instilling and encouraging that passion in her young pupils.
LUKE BELCHER: Drums / Bass / Guitar / Bands
Luke studied at the CPIT Jazz School in Christchurch, and is a part time classroom music teacher at Wakatipu High School.
MARTIN WIGHTMAN: Keyboard / Trumpet
Martin has played trumpet since the age of 7. He originally trained in the UK as a secondary school teacher of maths and science, specialising in Physics. Martin taught science and Physics at Wakatipu High School and was the Director of KipMcGrath Queenstown for 5 years. A qualified outdoor education instructor, he still likes to get out in the hills and is also often to be seen playing trumpet around town with local band the MasterBlasters, the Queenstown Jazz Orchestra and also supporting local performers in Songstars. You may have heard him playing the last post at the annual ANZAC and Remembrance Day ceremonies in Arrowtown and Queenstown.
JOSHUA ROMERO: Recorder / Voice / Holiday School
Josh is multi-talented, working at Pacific Gemm, ICAN models and Coyote Grill in Queenstown as well as for the Music School. He grew up in Italy, studied at Auckland University, and is looking forward to the new experience of teaching at LCMS.
